Why I Decided to Specialize in Boudoir Photography
I’m a huge believer that if you’re asking someone to be vulnerable, you have to be willing to do the same.
So here I am sharing my own boudoir experience with you!
Why Boudoir Photography?
I often get asked why I decided to shoot boudoir instead of weddings or families. While I appreciate the beauty that is shared and captured during a wedding and family sessions, boudoir stole my heart from the very beginning.
To me, a boudoir photoshoot is more than just some pretty pictures. Boudoir is about celebrating all of YOU. It’s about taking time, just for you, to get in touch with a side of you that maybe you had hidden away, or felt the need to repress. Boudoir is about celebrating your body and creating beautiful art. And it’s about that transformation that I see in my clients every time they walk through my studio doors.
I started boudoir photography because I have a passion for finding the beauty in ordinary things and people. Through boudoir photography, I get to see the beauty in others and I am lucky enough to help them see it too. When I show you the back of the camera and you see yourself in this way for the first time that giddy and excited reaction is why I do what I do.
The transformation …
When you arrive at our studio, of course you might be nervous! That’s a totally normal part of the experience. Our team will get you started in hair and makeup and slowly those nerves will start to settle. A little ambiance with your favorite music and some light refreshments will help you feel even more comfortable!
Once our boudoir shoot begins, we chat a bit while we pick out your outfits. Why are you nervous? What parts of your body do you love? What parts of your body do you not love, and why? All of this will help us create an experience around YOU and what you feel most comfortable with. I will guide you every step of the way from how to pose, what to do with your hands, and how to make those facial expressions. Once I show you the back of the camera with your first handful of images, you won’t believe that’s you. “That’s me?? OMG I LOOK SO HOT!!” “I can’t believe you made me look like THAT! WOW I look so SEXY!” And my response, “that’s ALL YOU!” That inner goddess is already there, we just helped you coax her out of hiding! We’ll explore what your sensual side looks like, what your playful and flirtatious side looks like, we’ll even explore what your confident and powerful side looks like. And you get to revel in all of your beauty.
By the time we are through with your session and you come back for your image reveal, you are a new woman. I see you walking out with your head held high and a grin on your face. You’re on cloud nine. And THAT, gorgeous, is what this experience is all about.
A small piece of my story …
Although I really enjoyed the first two, my third boudoir session was a life changer for me. It was just a dream then, but I knew in my heart after that session that I wanted to share that magic that is a boudoir session with every woman I met.
A friend needed a model for her promo video for her own boudoir business. I am not a great actress, but you know what, I took a chance and I am so glad I did! I learned so much from this experience. This was the first time I posed in lingerie in front of not only one, but four people including two men (talk about nerve-wracking!), so to say this was a bit out of my comfort zone is an understatement! Everyone made sure to make me feel so comfortable so the nerves soon subsided and I had the most amazing time. You can watch the video here.
Every time I watch the promo video I get teary-eyed because I remember what a magical day it was. I look back at these photos and see a softness that I had not shared with anyone before. I grew up being told that I was too emotional. Eventually that story stuck and I learned to repress my emotions, to harden my shell so I wouldn’t make others uncomfortable, to silence my voice so I wouldn’t be a burden. I learned to be the quiet sidekick. This session reminded me that I could be the star in my own life story and that other people’s opinions of me did not define me. I learned that I could do new things and brave things and I would do well. I learned that to be myself was the most powerful thing I could do for myself. This session is where my journey to self love began. This is where I began to crack open my shell and share more of myself with others. Boudoir changed my life forever and I know that it will change yours too!
